Ultra High Vacuum Systems

The Ice Rig is specially designed to carry out astrochemically relevant surface science experiments. It consists on a 30 cm diameter stainless steel chamber, capable of reaching pressures as low as 10-13 bar, and a base temperature of only ~ 20 K thanks to closed cycle He cryostat which allows to reproduce the conditions present in interstellar clouds and star forming cores. The experimental level of the chamber is shown in figure.

The system includes:

  • Line-of-sight pulse counting Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer (QMS)
  • Reflection Adsorption Infrared Spectrometer (RAIRS)
